My Approach

My approach is always rooted in respect to you as a whole person- not just based on a checklist of "symptoms".  I draw from a humanistic foundation, and over the years, my practice has become increasingly eclectic, shaped by what each person specifically needs and can find effective.

I integrate Somatic Therapy practices and Polyvagal-informed practices for clients who are also experiencing physical symptoms that are tied to anxiety, stress, or unresolved trauma concerns. It involves learning and tuning into the involvement of our nervous system (our body's response) when in mental and emotional distress. It is a great approach to developing internal and external resources to manage stress, emotions, and anxiety. Somatic therapy includes some cognitive and behavioral therapy practices as well.

I often lean into Cognitive Behavioral Therapy practices to attend to any patterns of thinking, beliefs, and actions clients have that are reinforcing distress. Solution-Focused Therapy, including problem-solving skills, is also an approach I may find helpful to incorporate.

I also pull from very well-known and respected providers in the mental health field who conduct evidence-based  qualitative research and author books on various researched topics including Brene Brown, PhD, MSW; Lisa Damour, PhD; Daniel Siegel, MD; Dr. Bessel A. Van Der Kolk; and Gabor Mate, MD just to name a few. I want to empower my clients with accessible resources that can assist them in being proactive in their healing and reaching their goals.

Lastly, I bring warmth, calmness, and a little humor when appropriate. I’m honest and direct, but always in a way that is respectful and compassionate. If appropriate, I am not afraid to share my own stories if it will provide my clients with a sense of being understood or to help give a new perspective that may be useful and beneficial.
